Podcasting and Podcatching in Education
Keystone AEA 1 Handout
Podcasting, iPods, along with digital recorders are fast becoming a useful and valuable classroom tool. Learn how teachers and students are using this 21st century tool to meet a variety of student needs.
The Education Podcast network (http://epnweb.org/) defines podcasting:
- Podcasting is essentially radio programming that can be produced with a standard computer, microphone, free software, and a web site for posting your programming.
- Podcasting can be listened to with any computer connected to the Internet and able to play standard MP3 audio files, or any mp3 player such as an iPod.
List of websites, podcasts, programs and tools used for this presentation:

Some rationale for creating podcasts…
- Creating a podcast helps students practice skills such as vocabulary, writing, editing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
- Students also practice “working world” skills such as communication, time management, and problem solving.
- Podcasting may be used as a form of assessment, allowing students to demonstrate their learning.
